Dozens of locals have already signed up to the City's Senior Social and Wellbeing Program.
There are calls for even more people over the age of 60 to get involved with the program, with a chance to improve fitness and build strong relationships.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the program utilised the Golden Bay Coastal Community Centre as the base for all the fun and activities.
“The program consists of social and physical activities that are conducted under the watchful eye of fitness professionals that specialise in senior health and fitness, followed by morning tea and coffee to finish off each session,” he said.
“Since the Senior Social and Wellbeing Program began six weeks ago numbers have continued to grow, with almost double the number of seniors joining in the fun now than when the program began.
“The program’s continued growth has shown seniors in the City strongly value the opportunity to get fit, both physically and mentally.
“Even in the short period of time the program has been running, there have already been some great relationships formed.”
The program is currently offered to the community free of charge on a trial basis.
“I encourage any interested seniors to join in the fun and see what it’s all about,” Mayor Sammels said.
The program runs from 9am – 10.30am on Mondays and 9am – 10.30am on Fridays.
