Works have kicked off to complete the Ocean Road Sports Facility in Dawesville which will be home to the Mandurah Storm Rugby League Club.
Stage two of the Ocean Road Sports Facility formally kicked off with the Breaking of Ground ceremony held on Friday morning.
The Ocean Road Sports Facility in Dawesville provides a shared-use, multi-purpose active sports reserve for students and residents in Dawesville and southern districts.
Stage one of the project (the active reserve) was completed in late 2015.
Stage two of the project includes two changerooms, umpire’s changeroom, two universal public toilets, small kiosk, first aid room, sports floodlighting, meeting and social space.
The Ocean Road Sports Facility is a $1.49m City of Mandurah project, with a $200,000 grant contribution from the National Rugby League Footy Facilities Fund.
The new sporting facilities will be home to the Mandurah Storm Rugby League Club during the winter season (April to September).
The National Footy Facilities Fund is an initiative of the NRL which assists existing and new clubs to improve the quality, availability and standard of their facilities.
Local supplier, Moore Constructions (WA) Pty Ltd Mandurah, was awarded the tender recently to undertake the works.
The City of Mandurah said these new facilities are a much-needed addition to the community in the southern suburbs.
The addition of meeting and social space in the Dawesville area will not only provide a long-term base for sports clubs to become established and grow, but will also deliver a central and flexible meeting space for community groups to operate.
