Teen charged over alleged hit-and-run in Port Kennedy

An 18-year-old man has been charged over an alleged hit-and-run in Port Kennedy that left a 15-year-old boy with bleeding on the brain.

It's alleged the accused was driving a Holden Caprice sedan with three teenage passengers along La Rochelle Ramble around 3.10pm on Thursday when one of the occupants yelled abuse at a person known to them who was standing in the driveway of a home on the street.

The 18-year-old then allegedly drove at speed down La Rochelle Ramble and crossed onto the lawn outside of the home before hitting the 15-year-old victim who had walked to within a metre of the road.

The accused then allegedly drove away without stopping to help the victim.

The 15-year-old boy was taken by ambulance to Fiona Stanley Hospital where he underwent surgery for a blood clot in the brain.

The 18-year-old man from Southern River has been charged with intent to harm (did an act causing bodily harm) and failing to stop and ensure assistance after an incident occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court today.
