City of Rockingham residents will be pleased to see the rundown Waikiki Hotel site has been cleared.
Council received notification on August 30 that demolition works have been completed on the old Waikiki Hotel site.
Works were completed seven weeks after the Demolition Permit was issued and the site took approximately seven days to clear.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said it was a relief for residents who had been complaining about the rundown visual appearance of the site.
“The demolition of the old building paves the way for new construction and removed the dilapidated old building formerly on the site.
“The City does not currently any active permits for redevelopment of the site.”
Following hydro-mulching of the site, the City’s Building Services will monitor it to ensure it will not create a sand-drift nuisance.
