Women found freezing in Dwellingup state forest

Two women who became lost in the Dwellingup State Forest were found cold and shaken on Friday night.

The pair set off for a hike from Dwellingup on Friday afternoon and walked for five hours in a southerly direction before they realised they were lost.

Waroona police said one of the females walked 15 minutes to a nearby peak where she managed to get mobile reception.

First class constable Matt Lunny said the alarm was raised at about 7pm on Friday and Department of Parks and Wildlife were called in to help with the search as well as two officers from Harvey police.

"We were taken about 35km along some pretty rough terrain and located them about two-and-a-half hours  later at the cross section of the Murray River Fireline and the Bibbulmun track.

"Other than being very cold and shaken the women were worried they were going to have to spend the night in the cold conditions.

"It would have been quite concerning as they had no torch, limited water and a muesli bar between them.

"By the time we got to them it was about 6 degrees and it was only going to get colder."

Police are again reminding people to always be prepared.

"Take water, take good communications, tell people where you are and don't rely on your mobile phone.

"The other issue we had was the location they gave us.

"The women were not where they said and it was just by pure luck we found them walking along the Murray River Fireline."
