Works have started on the long-awaited Mandjar Square redevelopment.

The Mandjar Square public open space area is located in the heart of Mandurah’s cultural hub between the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, Reading Cinemas and the Boardwalk.

It provides a space for events and activities and links the Boardwalk and Mandurah Ocean Marina precinct.

The infrastructure and landscape treatments within the area have deteriorated over the past 20 years and now require upgrading.

The $2 million redevelopment project will be carried out in four stages.

Stage one will take around eight weeks to complete and will include work on underground services including water and power, and improvements to lighting and pavement in the area.

Once this work is complete, the area will be fully reinstated in time for the City of Mandurah’s Stretch Arts Festival on May 6 and 7.

After the festival, the second part of the stage one works will commence consisting of the removal of lighting, bollards, existing paving and the existing timber decking around the trees; provision for services (water and electrical); and the installation of new lighting, paving and a grassed area.

There will be pedestrian access at all times, however vehicle traffic will not be able to access this area during the works.
