More than $80,000 has been paid to home owners in Silver Sands and Balcatta after a building company failed to complete home repairs.

A Landsdale building company has been fined $4,000 by the Building Services Board for failing to comply with two orders of the Building Commissioner.

Goldbox Holdings Pty Ltd, trading as Link Construction & Developments, did not complete scheduled repairs at two homes it had built in Silver Sands and Balcatta back in 2014.

New owners purchased a six year old home in Silver Sands in April 2014 subject to repairs being carried out by Goldbox Holdings.

It became apparent the repairs were not done when the dwelling was damaged due to rainfall two months later.

A homeowner in Balcatta experienced similar issues when they purchased their place in June the same year.

Water ingress was also among the issues identified by the Balcatta owners shortly after they purchased a newly-built dwelling from Goldbox Holdings in June 2014.

In both cases, Goldbox Holdings assured the owners it would rectify its work but it did not.

Both owners lodged complaints with the Building Commission and the builder was ordered to rectify the damage.

A total of 21 issues needed to be corrected at the Silver Sands property and 17 at the Balcatta site.

In good faith both homeowners agreed to extend the due date for repairs, but Goldbox Holdings failed to complete orders by the deadlines or not at all.

Both cases were referred to the State Administrative Tribunal, which ruled monetary compensation was in order for both sets of home owners.

The Silver Sands owners were awarded $39,569 for the rectification of 12 outstanding items and the Balcatta owners a total of $55,000 to fix 17 items.

Building Commission acting Executive Director Sandy Randall said the case was a reminder to anyone carrying out building work they will be held to account and the tribunal can order payment to clients who receive incomplete or unsatisfactory work.

"When issues such as water ingress are not dealt with they can lead to further and often serious damage to a building, and place a significant financial and emotional burden on a building’s owners," she said.

"The Building Commission will continue to hold to account and name those who put the public interest and the integrity of the building industry at risk.
