City of Rockingham residents claim the most rent relief in Western Australia.
The State Government's Rent Relief program, which is delivered in partnership with Anglicare WA and Vinnies WA, provides payments of up to $5000 to help households' who are behind on their rent or struggling to meet future costs.
Launched in November 2023, the program has assisted 4810 households with an average payment of about $4410 per household.
The Rockingham local government area had the highest number of households receiving rent relief, followed by Wanneroo, Mandurah, Armadale and Stirling.
The payment saw 90 per cent of people remain in their tenancy six months after receiving the support, helping families avoid eviction.
"Every Western Australian deserves the security of a safe and stable home, and our Rent Relief Program is delivering that for thousands of families who were at real risk of eviction," Premier Roger Cook said.
“More than $21 million in support has already helped people stay connected to their communities, keep a roof over their heads and avoid the stress and disruption of losing their home."
The Rent Relief program has been extended through to June 30, 2027.
To qualify, private tenants must be behind in their rent and at risk of eviction, be experiencing rental stress where more than 30 per cent of gross household income goes towards rent and have less than $3000 in the bank.
