Man charged over alleged cruelty towards German Shepherd in Baldivis

A 38-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty towards a German Shepherd in Baldivis.

The man was allegedly witnessed forcefully hitting the dog with a lead before swinging it into the tray of a Ford Ranger on May 3.

The accused also allegedly kicked and stomped near the dog while it was pinned in a small space between two large toolboxes.

He also allegedly yelled obscenities at the dog.

The alleged incident was captured on CCTV.

"The dog was seized by an RSPCA WA inspector during the course of her investigation of the incident and remains in RSPCA WA’s care," an RSPCA WA spokesperson said.

The man is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on October 6.

The maximum penalty for a charge of animal cruelty is a $50,000 fine and five years in prison.
