Ankle monitoring bracelets will be the next step for Western Australia in monitoring people in hotel quarantine deemed to be high risk.
Anyone arriving in the State with a criminal history or at high risk of leaving hotel quarantine will be forced to wear the devices.
The move comes after two breaches of hotel quarantine last week, where two Adelaide women allegedly flouted the strict quarantine rules to attend a party in Perth.
Premier Mark McGowan announced the unusual measure was part of the emergency coronavirus legislation previously passed by Parliament.
Currently in Western Australia there are nine active cases of COVID-19, all of which are related to international travel.
