Football great Graham "Polly" Farmer will be farewelled at a State funeral at Optus Stadium today.

The 84-year-old passed away on August 14 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The Australian Football Hall of Fame legend will be just the second WA athlete to be honoured at a State funeral after Shirley de la Hunty in 2004

Farmer was born in Fremantle in 1935 and raised at a Perth orphanage from 18-months-old.

He first joined East Perth Football Club as a ruckman in 1953 before being recruited to Geelong in the VFL where he played 101 games for the club.

Farmer then returned to WA in 1968 where he became the captain/coach of West Perth Football Club.

The funeral service will commence at 11am with members of the public invited to attend.

Gates open at 9.30am.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Graham “Polly” Farmer Foundation.
