A family cat has died after being shot with an air rifle in Byford.
The RSPCA is calling for information about the cat shooting which happened on Tuesday night on Henry George Close.
According to the RSPCA, the pet cat went outside at around 7:30pm and came back to the house two hours later bleeding from a wound to its abdomen.
The cat was rushed to a vet, but died from its injuries.
An air rifle pellet was recovered from the cat.
The RSPCA is working with police to gather information about this incident.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 CRUELTY (278 3589).
It is an offence, under section 19(1) of the Animal Welfare Act (2002), to intentionally or recklessly injure an animal.
Those found guilty face maximum penalties of a $50,000 fine and up to five years in prison.
