The City of Rockingham has announced roadworks surrounding the Baldivis District Sporting Complex are finished, with residents now able to fully access Eighty Road.
As part of the BDSC project, Eighty Road has been widened, a continuous pathway up Safety Bay Road constructed and a roundabout has been installed at the intersection with Kendall Boulevard.
In addition to the roadworks, the City has also planted more than 14,000 tubestock to revegetate the conservation area located in the north-western corner of the site.
By the end of winter 2021 the City estimates around 30,000 native plants will be planted in the area providing habitat for native animals and birds.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the Baldivis District Sporting Complex is an exciting project for the City which will address a significant shortage of active reserve space in the area for sporting groups.
"Ensuring the BDSC is surrounded by a suitable road network that can cater for growth is an important element of the project, and the City thanks the community for their patience while roadworks were carried out,” he said.
"Site works at the BDSC will continue to be carried out in the weeks and months ahead, with the playing fields set to take shape for the first time in early October 2020 when the City installs reticulation and begins rolling out approximately eight hectares of turf."
Roadworks and subsequent revegetation efforts are part of the first stage of the BDSC project, which is promised to deliver a district level pavilion and multiple playing fields.
