The Safety House message has been promoted at several schools in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale with an entertaining and educational puppet show.
Children from Jarrahdale, Mundijong, Serpentine and West Byford primary schools recently enjoyed the Safety House Show.
The show helps children become more aware of their personal safety, offers strategies on how to deal with bullies and advises children what to do if they ever get lost, scared or hurt.
Puppets, music, actors and a giant Safety House character costume have children completely engaged throughout the 35-minute show which is followed by an interactive Q&A session.
The children were thrilled when there was even a surprise visit from local Mundijong Police Officers.
The Shire’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention Officer joined forces with Safety House WA, and Mundijong Police to facilitate these shows at no cost to the participating schools.
Shire President John Erren said The Safety House WA show is a great way to engage with primary school aged children and reinforce personal safety awareness messages.
“Highlighting community safety to our kids is of the utmost importance in our efforts to increase crime prevention across Serpentine Jarrahdale.
“We are lucky to have the active involvement of our local and neighbouring police who assist with these programs.”
The Shire will also be hosting their annual Community Barbeques throughout the coming months, which aim to provide a meet-and-greet environment for residents.
Details will soon be available from the Shire’s website www.sjshire.wa.gov.au.
