The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale will be given greater input with the appointment of the shire President to the Peel Development Commission board.
Shire President Councillor Michelle Rich will join Mandurah Mayor Rhys Williams as the only local government representatives on the Peel Development Commission, with hopes Serpentine Jarrahdale will play a greater role in shaping the Peel region's future.
In November Cr Rich was also elected Chair and representative of the Western Australian Local Government Association advocates State Council’s Peel Zone, allowing her to be the region’s voice at state level.
Councillor Rich said she was looking forward to the work ahead.
“The Shire not only has a seat at the policymaking table, we are playing a central role in decisions that will shape the region’s future,” she said.
“Taking on such responsibility ensures the interests, opinions and aspirations of our residents, as well as everyone in Peel, are heard at a state and federal level.
“We see the Shire as central to region’s ongoing development and look forward to advocating for a future Peel that is economically prosperous, socially diverse and culturally vibrant.”
Today's announcement means the Shire will have greater influence over key decisions surrounding Peel's future with population growth expected to reach 444,000 by 2050.
