Warning for those giving and getting drones for Christmas

Drones are one of the top gifts to give and receive this year, but they come with a warning from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

The CASA says drone safety is imperative for drone use and have warned parents that a drone is not a give-and-forget gift.

If not flown safely drones can pose a serious risk to people, property and aircraft and fines of $10,000 can be inflicted for breaches of safety regulations.

CASA’s Director of Aviation Safety, Shane Carmody says teaching kids about drone safety is easy.

"The key drone rules are really simple – stay more than 30 metres from people at all times, never fly within 5.5 kilometres of major airports, never put aircraft at risk, keep your drone in your sight at all times and stay below 120 metres."

You can download the App "Can I fly there?" to know where you can take your new gift and find all the safety information on www.drone flyer.com.au
