Major prize money and tickets are up for grabs for the winners of this year's competition.
Member for Canning Andrew Hastie will again run the competition with a focus on art, performance, and celebrating the contribution of Shakespeare to our language and culture.
The annual event is open for students in years 10-12 who live in the Canning electorate.
“The Canning Shakespeare Competition is an opportunity for students to push themselves, try something new, and discover the riches of our most influential poet and playwright," Mr Hastie said.
“Shakespeare’s work has been incredibly influential on our language and culture.
“The Canning Shakespeare Competition is about celebrating that contribution, and passing it on to the next generation.”
There are three major prizes up for grabs, with first place taking home $1000, second $750 and third $500. All of the winners will also receive two tickets to Bell Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.
Students are invited to enter a video performance of a monologue from one of Shakespeare's works.
Monologues must be a maximum of 2.5 minutes long, performed in character, from memory.
Submissions are due in by Friday June 22.
Ten finalists will be selected to perform their monologue before a live audience and a panel of expert judges on Saturday 21 July at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
This year’s judges include Glenda Linscott, Head of Acting at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
