Each year a charity wish well is set up in the canals to raise money for the Rotary Club of Mandurah, who disperses the donations among local charities and 2017 saw a new donation record set.
The Mandurah Canals become a holiday attraction during Christmas light season, with locals and out-of-towners flocking to cruise services, taking in the glowing lights as residents get into the holiday spirit.
Mandurah Cruises last night made the announcement that a record breaking $27,000 was raised, during a resident's thank you & awards event.
The money will now be handed to the Rotary Club of Mandurah, who will decide where to allocate funds to local charities.
Local community groups and charities are encouraged to visit mandurahrotary.org.au to apply for Rotary Wishing Well funding.
In previous years the Peel Community Kitchen received funding from the initiative, which allowed them to purchase two new grillers making volunteers jobs easier.
Since the wishing well started over $120,000 has been raised, with $21,000 recorded in the previous season.
