Two men have been charged over an alleged boat crash in Mandurah.
The men, aged 23 and 29, were allegedly under the influence of alcohol when their four-and-a-half-metre runabout smashed into a wooden fishing platform under the Mandurah Estuary Bridge just before 7pm on Thursday, May 28.
Emergency services, including Marine Rescue Mandurah, attended and assisted by recovering both men and towing their damaged vessel to the Mariner’s Cove Boat Ramp.
One of the men was taken to Peel Health Campus with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 23-year-old man from Karnup and a 29-year-old man from Golden Bay have each been charged with one count of navigating a vessel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
"WA Police remind all vessel operators that alcohol and boating is a dangerous combination that significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death on Western Australian waterways," a WA Police spokesperson said.
"Legislation aligning boating alcohol and drug limits with road laws in Western Australia was passed on 28 November 2023. Breaches may result in the loss of a Recreational Skipper’s Ticket, significant fines, and imprisonment.
"Marine safety laws are actively enforced to ensure the safety of all water users. A person operating any kind of vessel may be subject to alcohol and drug testing if involved in an incident."
