A Great White Shark, up to four metres long, was spotted in waters nearby competitors in yesterday's Rottnest Channel Swim.
Swimmers within a one-kilometre radius of the area were picked up and had their competition number cancelled.
The race continued as normal after the shark wasn't seen for more than half an hour.
But those who had been pulled from the water still wanted to compete.
Some chose to get back in and finish, but their times weren't officially recorded.
