The Rockingham Foreshore and the clock tower at the City's Administration Building were lit up in yellow and orange on Thursday as it formally acknowledged World Suicide Prevention Day.
World Suicide Prevention Day takes place annually on September 10, and the colours yellow and orange are used to mark the event.
The City played its part to raise awareness and acknowledge those impacted by suicide by lighting up the Boardwalk, Railway Terrace, the Eagle Ray located at the Beach Plaza and the clock tower at the Administration Building.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said acknowledging World Suicide Prevention Day was an important matter for the City.
“Suicide is a significant worldwide issue with lasting impacts within a community,” Mayor Sammels said.
“It is important to know that no matter how overwhelmed someone may be feeling, that there is always someone to talk to who can provide assistance. 2020 has been a stressful year marked by a number of changes to our way life, so taking steps to look after your health and wellbeing is very important.
“Where possible community members are encouraged to keep in contact with their social networks, be involved in a hobby or volunteer, stay active, take care of their physical health, and importantly, ask for help if it is needed.”
