The City of Rockingham has secured a $1 million Lotterywest grant to assist in the delivery of the Baldivis Outdoor Recreation Space.
Part of the brand new Baldivis Sports Complex (BSC), the recreation space will feature a nature playground, a skate park, an adventure play area and an activity challenge course.
The space will be overlooked by the café that’s been delivered as part of the Baldivis Indoor Sports Complex.
The City is currently finalising designs and the project is expected to go out to tender later this year.
This phase of works will also see the City deliver the Southern Pavilion and outdoor courts at the BSC.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin thanked Lotterywest for being a major supporter of the Baldivis Outdoor Recreation Space.
“Two key aspirations in the City’s Strategic Community Plan are planning for future generations, and delivering quality leadership and business expertise – and securing a major grant like this aligns strongly with these aspirations,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“Design work on the Baldivis Outdoor Recreation Space is currently underway, and with a combined area of 2000sqm this space will be a fabulous addition to the wide range of facilities that the City has already delivered at the BSC.
“The City gratefully acknowledges Lotterywest for supporting this significant community infrastructure project.”
Lotterywest and Healthway CEO Ralph Addis said he was delighted to continue Lotterywest’s support of more than 30 years to the City of Rockingham.
“This grant will help create an all-abilities nature playground, skate park and adventure play area for the local community,” Mr Addis said.
“We are proud to work with the City of Rockingham to deliver what will be a safe and inclusive hub for thousands of Baldivis children and families.”
Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby said the project will ensure young people of all abilities will be able to enjoy healthy recreational activities.
“Keeping children and youth engaged and active leads to better outcomes in physical and mental health. I am proud to have worked with the City of Rockingham and Lotterywest to deliver such a fantastic result for our community.”
