The City of Rockingham will hold their annual Neighbour Day this Sunday.
Residents are being encouraged to register and become a member of the City's Neighbours Unite initiative.
Neighbour Day is held every year on the last Sunday of March and focuses on helping residents build lasting connections with others on their street.
The Neighbours Unite initiative is a local program that helps build on the values instilled by Neighbours Day.
As part of the initiative, those who register to become a member are able to receive a rebate to host a Neighbours Unite activity.
The aim is to build a connected community where residents get to know and look out for one another.
City of Rockingham deputy mayor Deb Hamlin strongly supports the initiative.
"Neighbours Unite is a wonderful community initiative that brings residents of all ages and backgrounds together," she said.
"At the City we understand the benefits of connecting with your neighours, so we encourage residents to make every day Neighbours Day by joining Neighbours Unite.
"The City will also provide community safety information and other resources including invitations and a t-shirt for the host to support an activity."
Local resident Thelma Murphy recently hosted her own activity in Warnbro and says it was a rewarding experience.
"It's a great idea and for the effort to put it together, the satisfaction of the friendly atmosphere was so rewarding," she said.
"This has been such a benefit to our little community and I can see already that friendships have been started."
