Court today for man accused of stealing Woolworths truck at gunpoint

A 26-year-old man accused of stealing a Woolworths delivery truck at gunpoint is due to front the Perth Magistrates Court today.

The man allegedly threatened the driver of the truck with a firearm at a shopping centre in Thornlie around 5.10am on Saturday.

He then allegedly took off in the vehicle with police later sighting the truck near the intersection of Panton Road and Gordon Road in Greenfields around 6am.

The man allegedly failed to stop but after a brief pursuit he was eventually arrested.

Police allege the man pointed the gun at two members of the public during the incident.

The firearm has been recovered.

The Maddington man has been charged with a string of offences including one count of armed robbery, one count of stealing a motor vehicle, two counts of being an unlicensed person possessing a firearm/ammunition, one count of unlawfully altering a firearm in any way, one count of driving a vehicle and failing to comply with a direction to stop, reckless driving to escape pursuit by police and two counts of pointed a firearm at another person.

He will front the Perth Magistrates Court today.
