Damaging winds averaging 55 to 65km/h with gusts of 90km/h are forecast from late this evening into Thursday morning.

"Gusty easterly winds are relatively common this time of year, however winds are likely to be strong and may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. Easterly winds of this strength generally occur around 1 to 3 times per year," a Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said.

* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.

* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
