A 26-year-old man is behind bars over an alleged crime rampage through the southern suburbs.
Between Sunday, March 22 and Monday, March 23, the man was allegedly involved in a number of home burglaries in Silver Sands, Greenfields and Furnissdale.
Two vehicles were allegedly stolen during the burglaries including a grey Mazda CX-5 from the driveway of a home on Riverside Drive in Furnissdale.
The stolen Mazda was then spotted by police travelling north on Mandurah Road in Secret Harbour around 12pm on Monday, March 23.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver allegedly sped off, driving recklessly through several suburbs including Kwinana Beach, Wellard and Leda.
"The vehicle continued through a number of streets before being driven through a golf course and off-road into bushland at Sloane Reserve," a WA Police spokesperson said.
"The Mazda experienced mechanical issues as it re-entered Fielman Drive towards Gilmore Avenue, where it entered at an intersection at low speed before the driver lost control and crashed into a pedestrian handrail opposite Rogan Park in Kwinana.
"The driver fled on foot but was apprehended by officers as he attempted to climb over a fence."
During the man's arrest, he allegedly assaulted two detectives.
They were not seriously injured and received medical treatment at the scene.
A 26-year-old man from Leda has been charged with 23 offences including two counts of aggravated home burglary, two counts of assaulting a public officer, two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, possession of a prohibited drug and reckless driving to escape pursuit.
He was remanded in custody and will reappear in court later this week.
