Driver charged over alleged hit-and-run of woman in Rockingham

A 36-year-old man has been charged over the alleged hit-and-run of a woman in Rockingham.

Police say the man was driving a maroon Nissan X-Trail around 5pm on Sunday, May 18 when he allegedly struck the female pedestrian who was walking on Evinrude Bend.

The man then allegedly drove off, failing to stop and help the critically injured woman.

Emergency services attended the scene and conveyed the 58-year-old victim to Royal Perth Hospital.

The accused driver was located a short time later.

The Henley Brook man has been charged with failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - under the influence of alcohol and drugs and failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court on Monday, May 19.

The investigation remains ongoing.
