Mandurah Forum is confident retailer David Jones will open its doors on time, despite the downing of tools from construction company Cooper & Oxley.
In a statement Mandurah Forum said they were alerted to the recent Cooper & Oxley financial issues.
"We are aware of the issue with Cooper and Oxley and are working closely with David Jones. We will continue to provide further updates as we have them."
"The Mandurah Forum development is ahead of schedule and we don’t expect our opening to be affected."`
Yesterday Cooper and Oxley said it would suspend all of its major projects across Perth and Mandurah, including the new David Jones Mandurah store, and host an urgent review of its financial position.
Sub-contractors were told in a letter from Cooper & Oxley managing director George Hampel the company could not afford to pay them.
The letter said "Cooper and Oxley will provide an update on their financial position within one week."
Tradesmen were reportedly locked out of work sites this morning, while some tried to collect their personal tools and had trouble doing so.
It's understood employees at the yet-to-be opened David Jones store have been contacted by the company.
David Jones has not released a statement on the matter.
As part of the Forum redevelopment plan each retailer hire their own contractors to complete shop fit outs.
