A southern right whale has finally made its way back out to sea after spending 19 days in the Peel-Harvey Estuary.

Nicknamed, 'Gale', the 10.6m juvenile whale entered the calm waters of the Mandurah estuary on June 28.

While authorities said it was unusual for a whale to be in the estuary, they were confident it would eventually find its way back out.

Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) officers along with local volunteers monitored the whale as it swam back and forth for nearly three weeks.

But on Thursday, Gale, guided by a pod of dolphins, swam back out to sea through the Dawesville Cut to continue its migration along the WA coast.
