With only one Doctor on four days a week, patients are losing out on appointments.
Members of the community are lending an understanding ear to the Golden Bay Medical Centre following the recent Doctor shortage at their local GP.
The Golden Bay Medical Centre is a bulk billing facility and operates with a small team of five staff and one Doctor from Monday to Thursday while a second one is only available for Fridays.
Practice Manager Krystal said they were turning away up to 50 patients a day and some aren't able to book in for three days at a time.
Krystal said the practice didn't understand why Doctors were hard to come by, but did believe changes to visa which allow overseas practitioners coming to Australia was a contributing factor.
"We definitely do [rely on overseas Doctors] and we're also an area of need in Golden Bay, we get extra incentives to employ overseas trained Doctors," she said.
"We're running on a loss at the moment."
The business has advertised everywhere to fill positions, but did note some Australian Doctors were demanding too much for their wages, including upfront payments of up to $40,000.
Staff at Golden Bay Medical Centre are concerned for their patients, as lots of them are elderly and driving further for medical advice was putting them out.
"Golden Bay is a small community with lots of elderly, so when they need to see a Doctor they need to see them now," she said.
"It's difficult for them, they can't get far so when they go to other surgeries it's difficult because a lot of them don't drive."
Krystal said the practice did manage to find a new female Doctor from Rwanda, who will start seeing patients next month, she's currently working in Melbourne.
The Staff at Golden Bay Medical Centre have thanked their patients via social media for being understanding during their hard time.
