The new program established by the City of Kwinana and Orelia Primary School is teaching young children about community safety.
As part of the program, students from Orelia Primary School wrote letters about the new initiative and asked local residents to keep an eye on their school over the holidays.
With the aid of local Police Officers, students delivered the letters along with gift bags that included information on personal and community safety.
The students were mentored through this activity by local Police Officers, Crime Prevention, Neighbourhood Watch WA, and City of Kwinana representatives.
A number of lucky students from the new community program were also chosen to meet the Governor at Government House to celebrate Neighbourhood Watch WA’s 40th anniversary.
On the last day of Term 3 our Year 6 students through their Junior Neighbourhood Watch program participated in a wonderful community activity. Students wrote our neighbours letters asking them to help keep our school safe over the holidays 🧡 Students were mentored through this activity by local Police Officers, Crime Prevention, Neighbourhood Watch and City of Kwinana representatives. Students also made up ‘Goodie Bags’ that included a lot of information around personal and community safety that they gave to our neighbours. We are so proud of our students behaviour, participation and positive attitude they displayed throughout the session - well done everyone 🙌🏽 Thank you to the City of Kwinana Mandurah District - WA Police Force Neighbourhood Watch WA for supporting our school.

Orelia Primary School also recently signed up for the 'Your Move' program, which aims to keep students active by encouraging walking and riding to school.
The school held a ‘Dress Up Your Bike/Scooter/Helmet or Hat’ event which included prizes and a photo booth to encourage students to keep active.
City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams has commended the school for its commitment to safety in the community.
“On 23 September, the City of Kwinana rolled out the red carpet for Orelia Primary School students who chose to ride, walk, or scoot to school,” Mayor Adams said.
“Many children made use of the brand new shared path along Gilmore Avenue which is the first shared-use path along a City-owned road, allowing both pedestrians and cyclists to safely use the pathway.”
“We are proud to have been able to make it easier and safer for children to keep active, and it has been lovely to see them engage in community safety initiatives within the City of Kwinana.”
