Headonista's Rosie and Victoria are ready to launch into a busy 2018 with their business after a free City of Mandurah run course boosted their business knowledge and skills.

The City of Mandurah’s free entrepreneur programs have experienced huge popularity and success since they started in 2014, with many success stories of local people creating their own business opportunities.

Rosie Hegarty from local Millinery company Headonista said when she and business partner Victoria Gardiner met the pair instantly knew the program would sky rocket their business.

"Vic went to the first session and straight after she rang me and was like oh my God Rosie you absolutely have to come on this journey with me to this program it's really beneficial," Ms Hegarty said.

"I got on the program the following week and it's just given a strong really deep dive look into key components unique to run a business."

The pair completed the Start Up smart creative course at the end of 2017 and have now launched their millinery business, with their custom website set to go live in the next few months.

With each program tailored to different groups and interests, the City has welcomed more than 530 participants through a range of workshops and courses, including Artpreneur101,

Design Your Own Job, the Migrant Women Program, Mumpreneur and the latest Start Up Smart Creative.

The program’s success has contributed to close to 50 full-time businesses being established, and 65 percent of all participants registering an ABN with most of them trading part time.

The eight-week StartUp Smart Creative course was co-funded by State Government’s Royalties for Regions program, and developed and organised by City and partners.

The next StartUp Smart Creative course starts on May 8.

Ms Hegarty, who comes from a corporate background, said people thinking of getting involved shouldn't hesitate.

"Don't think about it just do it, you've got nothing to lose" she said.

"I've been on many expensive training courses and this course is comparable.

"The facilitator is professional and extremely helpful."

Since completing the course Headonista has been featured at local clothing store Love To Be with designs also spotted at the Pinjarra Races and other events around town.
