Two locals will be recognised for their bravery in the 2019 Royal Life Saving Bravery Awards on Friday.
They are among 45 heroic children and adults from around the state who took extraordinary actions to save, or attempt to save, another person's life.
Ethan de Coning, an 11-year-old from Secret Harbour, pulled his two-year-old sister Jordyn from a home pool in Rockingham in January.
While their dad quickly went inside to collect something, Jordyn's floaties slipped off as she jumped into the pool, before Ethan noticed her floating face-down and not moving in the pool.
After Ethan got her out of the pool, their dad began to perform CPR while Ethan called an ambulance and kept his other sister calm.
Jordyn was resuscitated and taken the hospital by ambulance where she made a full recovery.
Ethan will be rewarded a Gold Star Award.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Megan Larmour performed CPR on a man who suffered a heart attack and collapsed in a shopping centre car-park in Mandurah.
Megan also applied a defibrillator, shocking him twice while continuing to perform compressions with the help of another bystander.
The man was taken to hospital where he was revived and placed into an induced coma.
Sadly after 48 hours he was declared brain dead and his family made the decision to turn off his life support.
However, the prompt application of CPR and the defibrillator meant his family was able to say goodbye, and also ensured that his organs remained viable so his family was able to donate them to save the lives of others.
She will receive the Gold Medallion Bravery Award.
Royal Life Saving WA’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Leaversuch said each award recipient displayed exceptional courage, empathy and initiative by applying lifesaving skills in emergency situations and sometimes at risk to themselves.
“These individuals are an excellent example to all Western Australians and show how vitally important it is to obtain lifesaving skills - they’ve applied their skills to save another’s life, showing bravery and commitment in doing so, and deserve our highest recognition,” he said.
