A 23-year-old man has been jailed after embarking on a drug fuelled rampage in 2016.
Jesse Federico faced Perth District Court yesterday over a series of meth-induced incidents in July 2016.
He was sentenced to six years and one month behind bars.
The West Australian reports Mr Federico was on a meth-fuelled rampage when he threatened two men with a knife and bashed a pensioner with a golf club in Rockingham.
The court heard he followed a man to his car and then pulled out a large kitchen knife.
Just minutes later he confronted a neighbour with the same knife as he was putting his two-year-old child into a car.
His most serious incident was then repeatedly beating 74-year-old Clive Hemmingway with a golf club as he was washing his car.
Mr Hemmingway was left with a serious brain injury and a broken neck.
District Court judge Vicki Stewart said Mr Federico's actions were random and senseless.
"Gratuitous violence is regarded very seriously by the courts," she said.
"You were persistent in your offending that day.
"Your offending represented a degree of perseverance with a number of weapons resulting in injuries that could have resulted in death."
The court heard that the young father started using cannabis at the age of 13, and spiraled into meth usage by 19.
He spent 102 days at Graylands Psychiatric Hospital after his arrest.
Mr Federico will be eligible for parole in four years.
