Participants of the Man V Fat Soccer program held at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) last year experienced great success during the 15-week program.

Not only did the group lose more than 200kg collectively, the participants formed great friendships and social connections while enjoying a game of indoor soccer.

The Man V Fat Soccer program is a University of Western Australia Sport initiative that was brought to WA after success of the program in the UK. Mandurah was one of three locations in which the program was run, and the competition kicked off in August 2019. This program is in line with the City’s public health plan, and encourages men to get involved in a healthy community activity with like-minded people.

The season included a weekly weigh-in, discussions around activities and nutritional meal plans with the resident League Coach, and a fun game of indoor soccer/futsal on the MARC courts. The program encouraged weight loss, but was also a great opportunity to get active and fit, enjoy a fun activity and make new friends.

As part of the MARC program, two young recreation centre staff were also up-skilled, learning coaching and referee skills for the competition.

The MARC’s first program attracted 53 participants (six teams), and organisers are looking forward to a successful second season which will kick off on February 3.

Registrations for season two (with discounted rates) are now open. For more information and to register go to or call the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre on 9550 3600.
