The new purpose-built Learn to Swim facility in Lakelands has opened its doors this morning to give locals a preview of the new swimming destination.
Visitors big and small are being given free swim assessments and aqua aerobics demonstrations with Members of the Australian Dolphin Swim Team stopping by to inaugurate the centre.
Stalls from Funkita, Speedo, Muffin Break, Westpac, Nido Early Learning Centre and Coast FM have been set up and you can even grab a sausage sizzle thanks to the Mandurah Swim Club.
WestSwim Lakelands will host in-term swimming lessons for local schools and offer private swimming lessons to kids aged three months or older as well as adults and seniors when it officially opens on Monday.
The centre has been designed with family-friendly changerooms, on-pool deck showers, infant change tables in close proximity to the pool, pram friendly areas, and dedicated seated areas for parents.
For the first time WestSwim has full control over the facility, with the program previously being run at Chisholm College and Churchlands Senior High School.
Swimming WA CEO Darren Beazley said the pool will help operators address the lack of development turning Learn to Swim venues into swimming Clubs.
"The most important outcome that we seek from opening our third learn to swim centre is that WestSwim Lakelands will provide the model for a clearly defined pathway from a positive and highly credentialed learn to swim experience into to a swimming Club environment." he said.
The WestSwim Lakelands open day continues until 2pm today.
