The banks of the Murray River in Ravenswood are set to be reinforced in a bid to slow erosion in the area.
The $50,000 project, led by environmental group Greening Australia, will see the banks at George Brook Reserve stabilised using the bioengineering technique of a brush wall and matting.
Greening Australia Senior Project Officer Christine Allen said the process is like building a green retaining wall.
"We use long shrubs that we put together as tight piles, so it is sort of like green bricks," Ms Allen said.
"As the river comes around in the winter months it hits the side of the brush wall instead of the bank."
On Monday, the local Noongar community, Bindjareb Middars, conducted a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at the site
This project is facilitated with funding from Alcoa Foundation and Shire of Murray, as part of the Three Rivers Initiative – a mission to improve health of the Peel-Harvey Catchment.
