Emergency services from around the state have been deployed after a yacht overturned with six crew members on board.
A yacht competing in the Bunbury Return Ocean Race has overturned 11 nautical miles south west of Mandurah.
It's understood of the six person crew, one person is deceased with an air and water search now taking place.
Around 11:30pm last night a distress beacon was set off by a 15m yacht named Finistere.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority attempted to contact the vessel via radio but was unsuccessful.
Finistere then failed to update its race tracker at midnight.
At the same time Fremantle Water Police and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called to attend the incident.
By 12.30am an RAC rescue helicopter arrived at the scene and two other competing yachts, Huckleberry and Force Dimension, spotted the overturned vessel in the water.
Five of the six crew were safely recovered.
One member is believed to be deceased and a search is currently underway.
A 90 square nautical mile search are has been identified, it is 22 square nautical miles south of Mandurah.
Two RAC helicopters, an ASMA Challenger search and rescue jet, Fremantle Water Police and Mandurah Volunteer Marine rescue Group have been deployed to the search.
The conditions on the water are tracking around 22-30 knots, quite windy with 3-4m seas.
