Perth's talkback radio legend Howard Sattler has died after a long battle with a rare brain disease.

The 76-year-old passed away on Friday at Murdoch Hospice with his wife Despene by his side.

Sattler battled a rare neurological disorder called progressive supranuclear palsy for ten years.

The radio veteran started his media career as a cadet at the Sydney Morning Herald before being called up for National Service in 1968 during the Vietnam War.

He then relocated to Perth and took up a defence public relations role, later returning to newspapers and radio as a current affairs commentator.

In 2018, Sattler was inducted into the Australian Media Hall of Fame.
