Police pursuit leads to arrest on dance floor

PIC: File

Detectives from the Regional Investigations Unit have charged a man after a short foot pursuit ended with a dance floor arrest in Balcatta overnight.

Around 8:50pm, a black HSV GTS with a false number plate was seen leaving a car wash facility on Wanneroo Road.

An attempt was made to stop the vehicle a short time later on Grindleford Drive, allegedly the diver failed to stop and accelerated away.

The vehicle continued to turn into the car park of the Macedonian Cultural Centre before the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the centre where a private event was being held.

Authorities chased the 27-year-old man into the centre, making an arrest after 'gliding' across the dance floor finding him seated at a nearby table.

It's been revealed the vehicle had also been stolen during a Bentley burglary in August. Police allege after the vehicle was abandoned in the car park it caused damage to another vehicle that was parked at the centre.

The Stirling man has been charged with steal motor vehicle, no authority to drive, fail to stop to evade police, fail to stop property damage and drove, caused or permitted a vehicle with a forged replica or false plate to be driven on a road.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates on Tuesday, Novermber 10.
