Pinjarra Primary School staff and students have come together to celebrate long-standing volunteer Wilbur Graham's 90th birthday along with a remarkable nearly two decades of service at the school.
Since 2005, Wilbur has been a daily presence at the school, helping students enjoy mathematics.
Armed with his own custom-made resources, he has made maths more accessible and fun for countless children.
“Wilbur is a much-loved and passionate volunteer who has contributed so much to the school over his many years,” Pinjarra Primary School Deputy Principal Marcia Kett said.
"Every student he sees loves spending time with him and enjoys the mathematics tricks and tips he teaches them.”
At a recent assembly to celebrate Wilbur, students and staff wore a check shirt, as he does every day.
There was also a cake donated by Kim’s Bakery which was big enough to hold his 90 candles as the whole school sang happy birthday.
Wilbur’s efforts are part of the EdConnect Australia school volunteer program.
EdConnect Area Manager Karen Barden said Wilbur is an asset to the school.
“Wilbur is amazing, he is like a school Grandad and his presence helps students enjoy their time at school. Of course, volunteering is a win-win, and I know Wilbur enjoys his time at school just as much as the students enjoy their time with him.”
