Safety Bay: Man accused of fatally stabbing home invader has murder charge dropped

PIC: 7NEWS

A man who allegedly killed one of four men who burst into his Safety Bay home has had a murder charge against him dropped.

Glenn Cyrel Butcher allegedly stabbed one of the intruders, who were wearing balaclavas and carrying weapons, at the property on Port Royal Drive in May 2024.

The man was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries.

The ABC reports, prosecutors dropped the charge at the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday, citing WA's home invader laws.

Prosecutors told the court they could not establish beyond reasonable doubt that the stabbing was unlawful.

Appearing via video link from Hakea Prison, Mr Butcher was remanded in custody because he still faces weapons and drugs charges in the Rockingham Magistrates Court.

The 51-year-old also faces a trial in the District Court in November on an attempting to pervert the course of justice charge.

A second man, Danniel Hoonhout, was also charged over the alleged murder.

His charge was dropped in February.
