Member for Mandurah David Templeman welcomed the funding announcement at the Mandurah Volunteer Marine Rescue Group.
Local marine rescue groups across the state will share in an additional $19 million provided by the McGowan Government.
Member for Mandurah David Templeman, a long term patron of the Mandurah chapter, attended the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday to welcome the funding.
“The $ 19 million increase by the McGowan Labor Government over four years is a direct acknowledgement of the incredibly important and valued work the state’s Volunteer Marine Rescue Groups do along our coast," he said.
The Mandurah Volunteer Rescue Group has applied for funding from the new budget allocation for a range of maintenance needs at their facility in the Mandurah Ocean Marina.
At the Annual General Meeting Mr Templeman thanked the volunteers at the Rescue Group on behalf of a grateful community.
“These magnificent volunteers provide an invaluable service to the people of Mandurah, the Peel region and visitors to our waterways," he said.
"Last financial year they conducted over 300 rescues and recoveries, quite often in very challenging and dangerous waters.
"They maintain a radio contact system 365 days of the year and participate in numerous community events throughout the year.”
Mr Templeman said he was very proud to be the Group’s long standing Patron. He also presented a cheque for $1000 to the Group from proceeds from his successful annual Variety Show staged at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre each December.
“Our annual Cheap and Dodgy Show at the Performing Arts Centre each year supports a number of groups and the Mandurah Volunteer Marine Rescue Group is a key one," Mr Templeman said.
Commander John Blay was appointed Commander of the Group for the 2018/19 year and was also recognised with an award, acknowledging his over 25 year's service to the Group.
