A 33-year-old man from Warnbro has faced court after scamming thousands of dollars from buyers on Facebook Marketplace.

The West reported Joshua Lee Evans appeared before Rockingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday and plead guilty to six counts of gaining benefit by fraud.

The court heard Mr Evans placed various ads on Facebook Marketplace between August and September 2022, selling items such as iPhones and iPads.

After being contacted by interested buyers, Mr Evans requested a deposit for the items being picked up and full payment for items being shipped to the buyer.

Once the payments had been made, some of the victims were blocked by Mr Evans while others visited the provided address to find Evans did not live there.

Mr Evans was arrested by police on December 12 and admitted to the online scams amounting to almost $4000.

He has been ordered to pay compensation to each of the victims and must complete an eight-month community-based order.
