A 25-year-old Waikiki man has been jailed for nine months over a series of offences.

The man and a 20-year-old woman allegedly stole a red Suzuki sedan from a home in Rockingham on May 23.

About 10.30pm on May 25, police spotted the vehicle on Canning Highway in Victoria Park.

The car was being driven by the man with the woman as a passenger.

"Police activated their emergency lights and sirens and attempted to stop the Suzuki however, the man failed to stop and became involved in an evade incident," a WA Police spokesperson said.

"Police Air Wing tracked the vehicle as it travelled at excessive speeds, on the incorrect side of the road and through red traffic control lights throughout East Perth, Victoria Park, East Victoria Park and Kensington."

The vehicle was abandoned in Karawara and the pair fled on foot.

The man was found on a roof and the woman was located inside the nearby home of an associate.

Both were arrested.

Police allege the 25-year-old man and 20-year-old woman also stole alcohol from bottle shops on May 13 and May 20.

The man appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, May 26.

He pleaded guilty to a string of offences including stealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, stealing and breach of bail.

The Waikiki man was sentenced to nine months imprisonment and was also issued with a $1000 fine and his drivers licence was disqualified for two years.

The 20-year-old woman from East Victoria Park has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and two counts of stealing.

She is next due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on June 11.
