Works underway on Rockingham and Safety Bay High School redevelopments

Construction is now underway on multimillion dollar redevelopments at Rockingham Senior High School, Rockingham Education Support Centre, and Safety Bay Senior High School. 

Rockingham Senior High School and Rockingham Education Support Centre - located on the same site - are set to receive a $61.5 million upgrade.

The project will deliver a new purpose-built education support hub building providing eight classrooms, as well as specialist and therapy related facilities, with an associated bus drop off area to support students with additional needs.

New facilities for the high school will include a state-of-the-art technologies block with materials technology workshops, textiles studio, STEM laboratory, and a home economics studio with a commercial kitchen and café.

There will also be a new sports hall including change rooms and toilets, along with a new visual art, media, information technology and music block.

The current gymnasium will be converted into a performing arts theatre and dance studio.

Student services facilities, IT laboratories, computer labs, and the current drama classrooms will also undergo refurbishments.  

The project has been designed by Parry and Rosenthal Architects, with the main construction contact awarded to Merym Pty Ltd, trading as EMCO Building.

Work will be delivered in several stages, with the first stage expected to be completed in December 2026.

The final stage is anticipated to be complete by July 2029.

Nearby, $41.5 million has been allocated to redevelop Safety Bay Senior High School.

The project includes a new administration block and a new double-storey sports hall and arts building, along with replacement of a synthetic soccer pitch and new external courts.

Refurbishments of a food science studio and conversion of an arts studio and IT laboratories to provide a commercial kitchen, café, and STEM laboratory are also part of the redevelopment.

The school's old gymnasium will be refurbished to provide a performing arts theatre with retractable seating.

Other works include re-roofing of the existing math and science blocks, as well as landscaped courtyards, a bus shed, bicycle area, and additional car-parking.

The project design was carried out by T&Z Architects, with the construction contract awarded to McCorkell Constructions WA Pty Ltd.

The project will be completed in several stages with the first portion expected to be completed in January 2026.

Final works are set to be completed in May 2028.
