A man has been arrested after he allegedly tailgated a marked police car while flashing his high beams at them in Busselton.
The police car was travelling on Vasse Highway around 11.40pm on Thursday when a gold Holden Caprice allegedly began tailgating the police vehicle as well as continuously flashing its high beams.
The Holden then stopped suddenly, did a U-turn and allegedly did a burn out before speeding off.
Police turned around and began following the vehicle as it travelled north.
The vehicle approached the intersection of Vasse Highway and Bussell Highway at speed and overshot the corner, causing the car to spin and turn 180 degrees.
The police car activated their emergency lights and sirens as the Holden accelerated heavily and did a U-turn, mounting multiple curbs and causing the vehicle to fishtail down Bussell Highway in a westerly direction.
The Holden mounted the centre island, which caused some of the exhaust pipe brackets to break and the exhaust was left dragging behind the vehicle.
It continued travelling on Bussell Highway and turned onto Country Road in Bovell, mounting a footpath and travelling for around 25 metres before stopping.
The driver was arrested by police without further incident.
Officers searched the vehicle and it will be alleged that a small amount of cannabis was located.
A 23-year-old man from Hithergreen has been charged with failing to stop, reckless driving, excess 0.08 and possessing a prohibited drug.
He will appear in the Busselton Magistrates Court on May 23.
