The federal government's Regional Employment Trials is inspiring local job-seekers to up-skill and get job ready.
The $18.4 million program offers pre-employment training services.
Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business, Senator Michaelia Cash said the trial is actively addressing the needs of regional Australia and creating more job opportunities for locals.
“The government is committed to ensuring job seekers in regional areas are getting the assistance they need to gain sustainable employment," Minister Cash said.
"This includes helping to identify future employment, training or work experience opportunities and addressing local skills gaps."
Member for Canning Andrew Hastie said the trial is a prime example of what can be achieved when local communities come together to pursue common goals.
“The government is working directly with community members to establish practical measures to support job seekers," Mr Hastie said.
“The eight week pre-employment program is designed to build confidence and teach important soft skills that are vital to finding a job.”
The trial in Mandurah is supported by AtWork Australia, and a locally-based Employment Facilitator who works directly with stakeholders to assist employers.
Under the trial, $1 million is available in to 10 selected regions across the country, providing grants of between $7,500 and $200,000 to local stakeholders for employment related projects that meet local needs.
