A woman has been airlifted to Perth from Bunbury after a firework blew up in her face.
The 66 year old, who works for Cardile Fireworks was conducting a sky display during New Year's Eve and was handling fireworks when they exploded in her face.
It all went horribly wrong just before 11:30 on Sunday, paramedics stationed at the Bunbury Trotting Club in Carey Park rushed to the woman's aid.
People were confused when the show suddenly stopped, but most assumed it was just an abrupt ending to the celebration.
The woman had to be put into an induced coma before being flown to Royal Perth Hospital because her injuries were so severe.
She remains in hospital now, where she continues to fight for her life.
Fairfax report Worksafe are investigating the matter and Cardile Fireworks managing director Rob Cardile did not wish to comment on the incident.
