The community are being encouraged to participate in this year's local government elections, with voting packages set to arrive in Rockingham mailboxes soon.
Thirty candidates have put their hand up across three wards in the region, including the Baldivis, Comet Bay and Rockingham/Safety Bay wards.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said it was important for the community to vote in the elections.
“Local Government elections take place every two years and represent an opportunity for the community to shape the future of their City,” Mayor Sammels said.
“For Council to best represent the diverse range of views in the community, it is vital that residents take the opportunity to learn about the candidates available and make their voice heard by voting.
“Historically, voter turnout has been around 30 per cent, so we hope to see more people engage in the elections this year.”
Those residents who do not receive packages by Monday October 7 can visit the City's administration building.
Replacements are also available if voting packages have been damaged in the post.
Votes will be counted at 6pm on Saturday October 19, 2019 with winners declared on the night.
To vote in the election all residents need to do is:
- Sign your elector’s certificate.
- On the green ballot paper put a tick in the relevant box/boxes.
- Place the ballot paper inside the elector’s certificate.
- Place the elector’s certificate in the reply paid envelope.
- Once the above is complete, place the envelope in the post or drop off in the ballot box at the front counter in the City's administration building.
